Janet M. Izzo was born in Rockland County, NY in 1960. Her childhood was devoted to music, learning various instruments while attending Julliard Pre-College program. She went on to study music and literature, receiving a PhD in Italian Literature from NYU. She is also a Fulbright Scholar. She divides her time between Guanajuato and New York, dedicating her days to tending to her gardening, rereading her favorite authors, writing poetry and prose, and spending time with her instruments and family.

Janet has translated The Coaxing of Our Ends, by Luigi Ballerini (Edizioni Essegi, Ravena, Italy, 1990) and La Torre dei Filosofi: Dialogo di Luigi Ballerini e Remo Bodei, by Luigi Ballerini, Remo Bodei and Eliseo Mattiacci (Edizioni Essegi, Ravena, Italy, 1989). She translated and subtitled the Rome segment of the film Night on Earth, directed by Jim Jarmusch (Locus Solus, 1990) and has subtitled video documentaries on Art History and Art Conservation for Treccani Educational Publishing Company, Milan, Italy. She also translated the Sardinian novel Sos Sinnos, by Michelangelo Pira (1993), into English from the original Sardinian.
Her translation of the short story, Baby Shower, written by Isaura Contreras , appeared in Asymptote (August 2024), a site dedicated to world literature in translation.
Janet has also translated various articles for The Weave, a nonprofit newsroom with a mission grounded in the practice of grassroots journalism for social justice.
The Spanish version of her novel, Serenade, translated by the author, is currently pending publication. An excerpt of the translation has been published in Letras en la Frontera (October 2025), an online literary magazine based in San Antonio, Texas.
